I buy most products myself. This post contains affiliate links. Full disclosure
Lips still dry and tight, no matter how often you reapply?
My #1 is the Ole Henriksen Pout Preserve. The Uriage Moisturizing Lipstick is my light, long-lasting pick. And the expensive L:A Bruket was too oily for me.
This post is for you if:
- Your lips get dry from AC or heating all day
- You don’t like sticky or heavy lip balms
- You’re wondering if an expensive lip balm is worth it
If you’ve read any of my previous posts, you probably already know this about me.
My skin doesn’t do well with air conditioning. And neither do my lips.
At work, I sit under pretty strong AC for 8 to 9 hours a day. By the afternoon, my lips usually feel dry and tight, and I find myself reaching for lip balm over and over again.
So honestly, work is where I use lip products the most.
Today, I wanted to share three lip products I’ve been using and how I would rank them.
One of them is my favorite, one of them I will definitely repurchase, and the last one… well, I really wanted to love it. 🥲
What I Look for in a Lip Product
Before I get into the products, let me tell you what matters to me.
- Not sticky. I have a really hard time with anything sticky. Not just lip products, anything.
- Not too thick or heavy. I don’t like the stuffy feeling when a thick layer just sits on my lips.
- Long-lasting. When you are under AC for 8 to 9 hours, you have to reapply a lot. So staying power is really important to me.
So basically, I want something light, not sticky, but still long-lasting.
That sounds simple, but it was harder to find than I thought.

Lip balms that didn’t work for me
Carmex was one of them. It’s everywhere in the U.S., so I figured I’d give it a try.
But I didn’t really like it.
It felt like there was a coating sitting on top of my lips, which I found uncomfortable. And even though it felt heavy, the moisture didn’t seem to last very long.
EOS was another one I tried after hearing good things about it.
Unfortunately, I wasn’t too impressed with the staying power, and I didn’t particularly enjoy the texture either.
ChapStick was the same story. It sits heavy on top of my lips, but the moisture doesn’t last long. It felt really temporary.
You can find EOS, ChapStick, and Carmex anywhere. But honestly, I will not buy them unless they are the only option I have.
One more I tried is the Fenty Skin lip balm. This one is actually good! But it’s a little pricey for the size.
Anyway, here are the three products I wanted to talk about today.
#1. Ole Henriksen – Pout Preserve Hydrating Peptide Lip Treatment

If I had to pick only one, it’s this one. No question.
I already talked about it in my Holy Grail post, but I couldn’t leave it out of a lip post.
Funny thing is, this is not really my kind of texture.
As I said, I don’t like lip products that go on thick. Normally, I wouldn’t have even considered this one.
But about once a year, my lips get really, really dry. So dry that they crack all over. During one of those times, I was desperate, so I tried a thick formula for the first time. And this was the one I picked.
And surprisingly, even though it goes on thick, it doesn’t feel stuffy at all. Most of all, it fills my lips with moisture really, really well.

It’s glossy when you put it on. As you can see in the photo, it has a slight color, but it’s not strong enough to actually color your bare lips.
So if you put it on over your lip makeup, it gives a nice glossy look on top.
And the scent. I love it SO much.
I was actually deciding between this one and the Summer Fridays lip balm, and the scent is the reason I picked this one. It also comes in several different scents, so you can choose the one you like.
#2. Uriage – Moisturizing Lipstick

This one was recommended to me by a friend.
Her lips get dry just like mine, and she has the same standards as me when it comes to picking lip products. So when she recommended it, I trusted her right away.
Uriage is not a U.S. brand, so Amazon was the fastest place I could get it.
First of all, it goes on very light. There is almost no stuffy feeling.
When you apply it, it feels soft and moisturizing.
And the staying power is really good. Light AND long-lasting. That’s exactly what I was looking for.

I mostly use this one before bed.
Because it’s light but lasts long, I put on a lot of it before I go to sleep, and my lips feel so moisturized the next morning.
The scent is a little bit like cherry… maybe a mix of cherry and vanilla? But it’s very subtle, not pungent at all. You can use it without worrying about the scent.
After you put it on, your lips look a little shiny, but not super glossy. I would say it’s about the same shine as EOS or Burt’s Bees.
Honestly, I don’t have anything bad to say about this one! The price is not bad at all either.
I will definitely repurchase it.
#3. L:A Bruket – No 017 Lip Balm

I am going to be honest here. I had really high expectations for this one.
Some people call it “the Hermès of lip balms.” And it’s about 3 to 4 times more expensive than other lip balms.
I did a lot of research and read so many reviews before deciding to buy it. After thinking about it for a long time, I finally got it on Amazon when it was on sale. (Like Uriage, it’s not a U.S. brand, so Amazon was the fastest option for me.)
But… I was really disappointed. 😢
It was too oily for me.
Some people say they love it because it feels light. But for me, the oily, greasy feeling on my lips was just too much. I kept wiping it off.
Personally, it’s not a feeling I enjoy.

To be fair, there are some good things about it.
The scent is a light almond scent. It’s very subtle, so it’s easy to use.
And the size is a huge plus. It’s about the size of a glue stick, so I think it will last a really long time.
If you don’t like the heavy feeling that most lip balms have, you might actually like this one.
But for me, I don’t think I will buy it again.
My Ranking
- Ole Henriksen Pout Preserve – Thick but not stuffy, really hydrating, and the scent is amazing.
- Uriage Moisturizing Lipstick – Light, long-lasting, and great before bed. Will repurchase!
- L:A Bruket No 017 – Too oily for me, but could work if you hate heavy lip balms.

Final Thoughts
I learned that an expensive lip balm is not always the best lip balm.
Just like skincare, it really depends on what your lips need and what kind of texture you like.
For me, it’s all about light, not sticky, and long-lasting.
If you have a favorite lip balm for dry lips, please let me know! I’m always looking for the next one. ✨
Thank you for reading my post today! Hope you found something helpful 🙂

Hazel 🙂
