11 Hand Creams I Tried for Dry Hands, Honestly Rated Out of 10

I buy most products myself. This post contains affiliate links. Full disclosure

Do your hands feel dry and powdery after just an hour at your desk?

Mine do. And honestly, I take hand cream very seriously. These are the 11 I’ve tried, each rated out of 10.

This post is for you if:

  • Your hands get dry at work from the AC or the heater, especially in winter
  • You want a non-greasy hand cream that won’t stay on your keyboard
  • Scent matters to you as much as moisture

My scores at a glance:

  • 150/10 Huxley Secret of Sahara. Honestly irreplaceable.
  • 10/10 Passion & Beyond Deep Moisture. No real downside.
  • 9.5/10 Caudalie Vinotherapist. The best non-greasy texture.
  • 9/10 Trader Joe’s Ultra Moisturizing. The best value, and a great gift.
  • 9/10 SW19 8am. Velvety, if you find your scent.
  • 9/10 W.Dressroom 514 May Rose. The best scent.
  • 8/10 Byredo Rose of No Man’s Land. Amazing, except the price.
  • 7/10 L’Occitane Lavender. So rich, but the scent isn’t for me.
  • 7/10 Bath & Body Works. Fine in a pinch.
  • 6/10 Kamill. Okay, but not memorable.
  • 2/10 KOSE Precious Garden. Sits on top. Won’t rebuy.

What I Look for in a Hand Cream for Dry Hands

My hands are on the dry side.

At work, the AC is always on. Even after sitting for a little while, my hands start to feel powdery. So I put on hand cream again and again throughout the day.

That means I have two rules.

1. It has to absorb. It should be moisturizing, but it can’t sit on my hands and feel heavy. I write with a pen. I type all day. If there’s any residue left on my hands, it’s out.

2. The scent has to be right. I’m really sensitive to scent. If a hand cream smells bad to me, I get a headache. I love grassy, rose, and floral scents, so most of my picks lean that way.

(I skip fragrance on my face, but hand cream is different for me. I wrote about why in this post.)

1. Huxley Secret of Sahara Hand Cream: My All-Time Favorite

My score: 150/10

Yes, 150. Really.

This one started with a friend.

I borrowed hers, and I fell for the scent first. Then I fell for the texture.

I liked it so much that I asked another friend who was going to Korea to bring one back for me.

For me, it’s truly irreplaceable. This time when I went to Korea, I stocked up.

2. Passion & Beyond Deep Moisture Hand Cream: Best Clean, Powdery Scent

My score: 10/10

If you like baby powder scents, I really recommend this one.

The texture is great, and the scent is so clean. It’s like soap and baby powder mixed together, and they blend really well.

It’s light, so it’s easy to use anytime.

Honestly, I can’t think of a downside.

3. Caudalie Vinotherapist Hand & Nail Cream: Best Non-Greasy Hand Cream

My score: 9.5/10

This one is love and hate for me.

I went to Sephora to buy a hand cream, and an employee there recommended this one. I tried it and thought, this is it.

The texture is the best. Nothing replaces it. The moment I put it on, my hands feel moisturized. The moisture just melts into my skin, like it becomes one with my hands. No stickiness. No greasy, uncomfortable feeling. Only the moisture stays. It’s so light.

And it’s not just for hands. It nourishes my nails too. A nice 2-in-1.

I am going to be honest here. The scent is not my favorite. It’s very citrusy, kind of like grapefruit.

The scent takes off 0.5 points. But the texture makes up for everything. I really recommend it, and I’ll probably buy it again anyway.

4. Trader Joe’s Ultra Moisturizing Hand Cream: Best Budget Pick (and Gift)

My Trader Joe's Ultra Moisturizing Hand Cream
My Trader Joe’s Ultra Moisturizing Hand Cream (only at Trader Joe’s)

My score: 9/10

I think most of you already know this one.

It’s so cost-efficient. You get a lot, and it does exactly what it needs to do.

The texture is thick and rich. The scent is soft and not bad at all.

It also makes a great gift. It’s not too pricey, so nobody feels pressured getting it. When I went to Korea this time, I gave one to each person in my family. I’m definitely buying it again.

5. SW19 8am Hand Cream: Best Velvety Texture

My score: 9/10

I heard SW19 comes in a few different scents. And I love that the scents are named after times of the day, like 8am. Such a cute idea.

This one isn’t a scent I love. But the texture is so good that I keep using it.

It’s velvety. It feels like it wraps around my hands.

If you find the scent that’s right for you, it’s perfect. If you like vanilla and cotton scents together, try this one.

6. W.Dressroom Perfume Hand Cream 514 May Rose: Best Smelling Hand Cream

My score: 9/10

This one was a gift from a friend. She brought it back for me from Korea. I think she picked it because she knows I love rose scents. And honestly, it’s so good for the price.

The texture is not bad. It’s on the lighter side, not super rich. But the scent is amazing. It’s a perfume hand cream, just like the name says. If your hands aren’t too dry and perfume usually gives you a headache, I really recommend this one. It also comes in other scents (April Cotton, Peach Blossom, White Musk, White Soap, and Chic Amber), so you can pick the one you like.

7. Byredo Rose of No Man’s Land Hand Cream: Best Luxury Hand Cream

My score: 8/10

Byredo needs no introduction. It’s a perfume hand cream, so of course it smells amazing.

And for a perfume hand cream, the texture is honestly great.

The only downside… it’s so expensive.

It feels like a gift to myself, so I don’t use it casually. It would make a great gift for a special day.

Really amazing! Except for the price.

8. L’Occitane Lavender Hand Cream: Most Moisturizing for Winter

My L'Occitane Lavender Hand Cream
My L’Occitane Lavender · Check price on Amazon

My score: 7/10

L’Occitane hand cream is really famous.

But personally, I don’t love that soft signature scent, so it’s a little hard for me.

The texture is heavy and rich, and it moisturizes really well. It feels like a hand mask.

I’d use it in winter when I have to be outside for a long time and don’t need to touch anything.

The moisture is amazing. The scent is the only reason it’s not higher.

9. Bath & Body Works Restorative Hand Cream: Fine in a Pinch

My Bath and Body Works Restorative hand cream
My Bath & Body Works Restorative

My score: 7/10

So many people use Bath & Body Works.

It’s not bad. But for me, it felt slippery, and I didn’t love how it felt.

It didn’t fill in the dryness underneath. It just left my hands slippery.

Still, if I needed a hand cream in a hurry, I’d buy it.

10. Kamill Classic Hand & Nail Cream: Okay, but Not Memorable

My Kamill Classic Hand and Nail Cream
My Kamill Classic · Check price on Amazon

My score: 6/10

In Korea, I think this one is known as the “flight attendant hand cream.”

The scent is soft and not bad at all.

But for me, it wasn’t that moisturizing.

Nothing about it really stayed with me.

11. KOSE Precious Garden Hand Cream (Relaxing Flower): Not for Me

My KOSE Precious Garden Relaxing Flower hand cream
My KOSE Precious Garden · Check price on Amazon

My score: 2/10

I bought this one at a Japanese store here in the U.S. when I needed a hand cream right away.

The scent is lavender, and I actually like it.

But the cream itself wasn’t for me. It doesn’t absorb well, and it stays white on my hands. It feels like it just coats the surface.

I don’t reach for it much, and I won’t buy it again.

Final Thoughts

For me, a good hand cream has to do two things. Absorb, and smell nice.

If I had to pick just one, it’s Huxley. If you want a non-greasy texture, go for Caudalie. If you want a lot for a little, Trader Joe’s is hard to beat. And if you want to treat yourself, Byredo.

What’s your go-to hand cream? I’d love to hear!

Hand Cream FAQ

What is the best non-greasy hand cream for dry hands?

For me, it’s Caudalie Vinotherapist. It sinks right in and leaves no sticky feeling, so I can type and write right after.

Is Trader Joe’s hand cream good?

Yes. It’s cost-efficient, you get a lot, and it does what it needs to do. It’s also an easy gift.

Which hand cream smells the best?

My favorite scent is W.Dressroom 514 May Rose. If you want to splurge, Byredo Rose of No Man’s Land smells amazing too.

What’s a good hand cream to keep at work?

Pick something light that absorbs fast, like Caudalie or Passion & Beyond. Save heavy ones like L’Occitane for long winter days outside.
